Rackspace goes down, Justin Timberlake complains

This is pretty strange. Rackspace goes down and Justin Timberlake (amongst others) complains about it on Twitter. Kind of makes the sys admins feel all Hollywood.

Interestingly, I didn't notice our Rackspace Cloud (formerly called Mosso) setup being down which could mean that it wasn't affected. Then again, I was at the beach that day snorkling and complaining about frozen calamari so server outage was the last thing on my mind.

Camping on the canopy

I remember seeing this in a documentary once and often mentioning during conversations that this is quite possibly one of the top 10 things I would like to do before I die. Live on top of a jungle canopy in one of those gigantic "canopy rafts" which are dropped far from civilization by even larger thermal airships.

Hardware is easy, software is hard

We now live in an age where copying hardware is easier than copying software, or more precisely, copying an experience. Sure the headsets are dodgy and there's "iPhone" plastered everywhere but the devices is a surprisingly high-fidelity copy; start using the UI however and the illusion collapses.

Sure, the processor seems slow and the screen probably isn't multitouch but its still quite a poignant illustration of how difficult it is to build great UX (even if you're ripping it off somewhere).

Pro Evo 2010 trailer

I'm interested to see how well this does. Many (including myself) tolerated PES's failures because of its exceptional gameplay. Problem is that it was bested in every single way by FIFA09 in my opinion so unless they really get their act together it will be difficult to return to lack of team licenses, fickle online gameplay and clumsy interfaces.

I'm the first to mourn losing a battle to EA but you have to admit that they can deliver some very decent games. I actually think that the heat they receive regarding their sequels and quality is unwarranted at times. Sure they release sequels on a nearly yearly title but it's not like we don't want them, and they do know how to make them polished. Just check out Fight Night Round 4.

Apple sell copy/paste like OMFG it's amazing, like

You've got to give it to Apple, they even know how to sell features they were late with (compared to, well, everyone else) as something utterly new and cool. Proof that Steve Jobs' reality distortion field now ships with every Apple product. That said, I will probably buy the 3GS (and can't wait for my MacBook Pro to ship).

Something is alive in the North Carolina sewers (and it will ruin your dinner)

OK, so it's a collection of worms that react to each other but this is possibly the most disturbing thing I've seen in a long while. I'm one of the many that thought this was a well put together hoax or viral campaign but this apparently real.

13-story building topples over in Shanghai

I guess there's a price to pay for rapid urban expansion. One of the most unreal scenes I have ever come across.
